MotherWise Africa

We were blessed to have 62 pastor's wives, Joyce's Leadership team of 8 ladies, and the team from JFBC of 6. We had ladies come from as far away as Mombasa (6 hours by bus), Kitale (6 hours by bus in the opposite direction of Mombasa), Nakuru and all around Nairobi. The small groups were such a blessing; the ladies were ready to meet new friends and to share testimonies of their lives and what Wisdom for Mothers has done in their lives.  

 

 

 
They loved Restore My Heart and were blessed by the teaching and  the hearing of God's Word. The pastor of the church came and served the Lord's Supper for us. You can see the "crowns" we brought to present them that even included "jewels!" One of the ladies made a wedding cake and we surrendered our all to the cross with personal notes. We also had the blessing of rubbing hand oil on each lady. It was a great day and our team did a wonderful job of teaching and reading segments from Denise's fictional story of Ruth and Levi.

 

MotherWise Materials

The materials are no doubt powerful. The first MotherWise Bible study is Wisdom for Mothers. It focuses on the five priorities of a Godly woman. 

1.   A woman’s relationship with God

2.   A woman’s relationship with her husband

3.   A woman’s relationship with her children [parenting]

4.   Her relationship with the world through her work

5.   Her relationship with the world through ministries

It is tremendous to see the change that has taken place in the lives of the ladies that have gone through the materials. One lady in Kitale, Kenya, was at the verge of separation with her husband when she went through a woman’s relationship with her husband. She decided to ask God to intervene in their marriage. She was challenged as she cried to God. Today they are living happily together. 

In Nairobi, a lady who was newly married was always     offended to be called by her husband’s name. She had refused to change her name to her husband’s. After going through the study she was so repentant, now she uses her husband’s name freely and happily. 

A group of professionals in Kisumu are using these materials to reach out to other lady professionals who are not saved. Thanks to God for the blessings of MotherWise in Kenya. 

The materials are being used by Compassion International (CI) to reach out to the ladies they minister to. Fifteen groups have been formed by CI. The following is a report from Irene the project director at Compassion International:

Feedback about MotherWise Materials in Kenya

    “I would like to start by appreciating the MotherWise materials. They are rich and with very helpful information.

    In Kenya we have 23 Child Survival Program (CSP) projects and 15 are already using the materials. They use them in small groups of 4-10 members and have time to discuss once a month.

    In every Mother Child Unit (MCU), ladies are divided into smaller groups which encourage interaction. The CSP staffs in some projects have been able to give leadership to mothers who can read English to guide others.

    The Kiswahili version of Wisdom for Mothers has been beneficial to the MCUs since some can read Kiswahili. We have also bought for them Kiswahili Bibles. We have encouraged mothers to attend adult literacy classes to reduce illiteracy which is a huge challenge.”

    TESTIMONIES:

There have been testimonies shared by MCUs after using the MotherWise materials where they recorded the learners to have healthy relationships with their husbands and children. They shared that homes have improved.

    RECOMMENDATIONS:

The staff requested that DVD and books be in Kiswahili. It would benefit the MCUs and avoid a lot of translations of materials.They appreciate the Wisdom for Fathers and request for DVD of the same. Participation of fathers has increased as they appreciate the change in the mothers.  In one of the compassion International groups in Uganda, 4 ladies gave their lives to the Lord, when they went through a woman’s relationship with God.

Trinity Fellowship International has really embraced the MW materials and are using them in varies parts of Kenya were they are. At list, 8 groups have been formed. It is encouraging to hear of changed lives. It is here that we have the first FatherWise group. This is because of the blessing the Wisdom for Mothers study brought in their homes through their wives.

A lady gave her life to the Lord in one of the MW group meetings in Trinity Fellowship. This is a lady who was an agent of the devil. She was delivered and now she is a strong believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

A lady, in Kitale exclaimed: “God has used wisdom for Mother’s to heal my marriage.”

In Nairobi a lady who has five groups told me there are many times they have cried together as the materials ministered to their lives. In one of the groups a lady with a spirit of feminism was delivered. This lady hated getting married, submitting to her husband and having children. To her this was to limit her from achieving what she wanted in life. She got married anyway but struggled with the issue of submission and the idea of getting children. Before she knew it she was pregnant. She was stressed. She did not want anyone to know not even her husband. Thanks be to God that she was introduced to MotherWise and joined a group. As she went through  a woman’s relationship with her husband she was challenged and started asking God to help her. In one of their MotherWise meetings she gave a testimony of what the Lord had done. She appreciates God for MW materials. They came in just in time.

A lady in Nairobi was introduced to MotherWise by a friend. She called me. After talking to her she went, put up a group in the neighborhood. These are ladies from different churches. They have become one. They pray and encourage one another. They have seen God change a son of one of the members of the group who was addicted to drugs. Families are experiencing a new joy in their marriages, as ladies take up their responsibilities. Not that it has been easy but it is working.    

Men have been challenged by their wives. In Trinity Fellowship, men started a FatherWise group. They are very committed. They meet at 6:00 am every Thursday before they go on duty. I talked to one man in the group and he told me that he had assumed he knew everything about marriage. He has been a Christian for some time. He is being challenged by the insights of God’s word as he goes through the FatherWise materials.  

Stories of changed lives are on and on. God is using these materials to change lives. Satan is targeting families. He knows strong families bring strong churches.

In Kenya, stories of divorce more so in the church were never heard of.  Many brethren, and Pastors are struggling in their marriages. We hear of sorts of divorce here and there in the body of Christ. 

Rise up women and take your position, put your priorities right and fulfil God’s purpose for your lives. A wise woman builds up her own house and a foolish woman destroys with her own hands.

In 2008, we envision holding many seminars in different parts of Kenya as well as outside of Kenya, as God opens doors. We are trusting God for more groups to be formed and above all for life change as women interact with the MotherWise studies. We are trusting God for divine opportunities and doors.
