Wisdom for Women in Hong Kong, 2008
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:3
Many of us heard the story of Cinderella as a young girl. While we pondered the thoughts of true love and faithfulness, we wrote our own version of the story on the tablets of our hearts. As each of us has grown in our personal faith journey with Christ, His love and faithfulness has never left us; He has bound them around our necks as in a necklace; and our hearts display the God stories of our lives.
Denise Glenn, along with a MotherWise team from Johnson Ferry Baptist in the US and a group of godly ladies from Hong Kong called MomsUnite, prayed for many months to be in God’s Will in Hong Kong. In this conference, the teams’ hearts’ desire was for God to write His stories of His love and faithfulness on the hearts of women who did not know Him as Lord and Savior. We also prayed for those who needed to be embraced, educated and encouraged in God’s plan for their life.
Upon arriving at the Hong Kong Country Club, one team member, Stacy, was met by a young lady attending the conference. Quickly she said that she was not a Christian but had come to learn how to be a good mom. Stacy knew immediately that this was the reason she was called to be a part of this mission trip. A personal relationship that would last for eternity began at that moment. Little did her new friend know that she would truly be reborn during that day and become our sister in Christ. The teams had prayed for God to be there for this very reason.
As Denise spoke about the importance of having a relationship with God, giving the gifts of honor and respect to our husbands, the goal of parenting should be to produce godly offspring and for each of us to surrender our all to the very cross that Jesus died on for each of us, Stacy’s new friend asked Christ into her heart. During that day, nine ladies rededicated their lives to Christ and twenty-three expressed an interest in learning how to use the Biblical materials in MotherWise Ministries with ladies in Hong Kong. Others who have not made that leap of faith will continue to be encouraged by their Hong Kong sisters.
The next day the team offered a Leadership Training class to answer questions and to teach the ladies how to begin MotherWise classes in their churches, homes and other places of community outreach. Many expressed that the materials offered in MotherWise are needed in Hong Kong, just as we know they are also needed all over the world. We know that training the local trainers is the best way to reach beyond all cultural boundaries.
Our team visited Chung King Ministry where they serve as a drop in center to reach out in love and compassion to those in need. Many who are served are refugees, homeless, unemployed and perhaps addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Above all, the ministry hopes to seek and to save by building relationships and sharing Jesus Christ at the center of all that is done. Our team had the privilege of spending the afternoon with about 16 ladies. Denise shared God’s assurance that He chose each of us before we were even born and Patrice shared her gift of interpretive dance. While dancing to “Cinderella” she demonstrated that God wants a relationship with each of us and touches us with His love. Downtrodden faces turned to acceptance and delight as the Holy Spirit worked through her hands when she touched their faces in love during the dance. Our team shared practical gifts we had brought and prayed with each lady individually.
As in all mission trips, many other opportunities to reach out and disciple others for Christ occurred along the way and other relationships were formed. We loved the city of Hong Kong and each person we were blessed to meet. The MomsUnite team was a blessing to us and is a light in the city of Hong Kong.
